Bringing the World to Your Plate- Chefs Across Continents
On the evenings of 16 and 17 March, InspiringChefs founder Carine Ottou and three other talented chefs, will be hosting a unique experience to bring the flavours of their countries to the people of London. What's the purpose of the event? - to act as a platform for different backgrounds to bring foods, that aren't necessarily the most popular, into the culinary scene says Carine. March also sees another very important date to InspiringChefs - the 106th International Women's Day (IWD), on the 8th. A day when we celebrate the political and social achievements of women all over the world, and the progress that they have made since the first IWD in 1911, while simultaneously continuing the campaign for complete gender equality. The first IWD was celebrated only in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland but today is a global event, characterised by marches, talks, performances, and all sorts of other events.
One important aspect of campaigning for gender equality is that of employment equality, an area in which women are slowly gaining ground, in terms of equal pay and prominence in their respective fields. Four such inspiring women who have carved out a special niche for themselves in the British culinary sector are Natalie Griffith, Dare Oni, Roni Bandong and Carine, the creators of this month's multi-cultural culinary experience. All from vastly different cultural backgrounds, these four experienced chefs share a common interest- to bring the traditional cuisines of their countries to the UK. This event comes at a time when the foodies of the world are becoming more and more adventurous in their culinary choices, leading to a surge in popularity for cuisines of other lands. In their up-coming immersive experience, 'Chefs Across Continents', they will take their customers on a culinary journey around the world. It will take the form of an eight course tasting menu, featuring dishes from three different continents in a celebration of cultural diversity. With this goal of bringing foreign cuisine to the British mainstream, Natalie, Dare, Roni, and Carine will be creating exciting dishes from Armenia, Iran, Cameroon, France, Nigeria and the Philippines.
Over here in London you simply have to look around to see evidence of the recent explosion in restaurants specialising in cuisines ranging from Afghan, to Hungarian, to Persian. 'Chefs Across Continents' has tapped into the public's increasing sense of adventure with food to create a night filled with exciting ingredients, flavour combinations, and techniques. You can expect to sample the likes of spicy pepper soup with kale, mussels, prawns, and squid from Nigeria, slow cooked lamb with aubergine, and yellow split peas from Iran, a purple yam cheesecake with coconut, chocolate, and lemon thyme from the Philippines, and much more! So, make sure you book a ticket so you don't miss out on a special night that celebrates both women in food and culinary diversity!
